Driving In Winter Top Tips

While you might know how to drive and have been doing so for many years, driving in the winter is a whole new kettle of fish. There is a myriad of new challenges that you might face driving in winter that you would not have to consider during the rest of the year. If you have never experienced driving in the winter before, it can be a daunting task. Some people choose to not drive at all, but if you have to go out such as for work or to pick something up from the shops, you need to know how to do it safely.

Some of the top things that you will need to be mindful of when driving in winter are:

Increase your stopping distance – When the roads are icy, wet or snowy, your stopping distance increases significantly from what it would be in normal conditions. Keep a safe distance from the driver in front at all times

Drive in a higher gear – This will help you to keep control of your car

Check your tyres – You need to ensure you have enough grip on your tyres to deal with the harsher weather, so be sure to check this before going out

Leave yourself plenty of time – It is a good idea to leave much earlier than normal to do your journey as it can take a lot longer to complete and you don’t want to be stressed.

These are just some tips for driving in winter. Check out the infographic below for some more top tips…
