Instead think of this like another job interview. Go in there with evidence of the work you do, positive examples of your love for the company and the reasons you believe that you deserve the extra pay. If you can show your employer that you are taking on extra tasks during the working week and give them evidence of the extra work you have been doing, you will be able to make a good case for being paid more than you do.

Whatever you do, don’t make your case about the things you are facing in your life. You might be moving into a new house or having a baby, but this is nothing to do with how good you are at your job and should not be used as a reason for youto get paid more. Even though these issues will be at the forefront of your mind, they are not relevant. Keep it professional and focus on what you can do for the company, this will make it more likely to go your way and allow you to provide for your family without worrying about money anymore.
