Creating a Twitter account for your Blog

Creating a Twitter account

Running a blog is hard work and it may seem like you don’t have any extra time to reach out to new and existing visitors, so often you let it slide. Well, this is where Twitter comes in. Twitter is incredibly easy to use social media platform that allows you to connect with thousands of different people all over the world.

If you’re thinking about setting up a Twitter account then you’ve come to the right place. Read on for a step-by-step guide of how to actually create an account, and some excellent tips on how to successfully run your account.

Creating the account

  • Once you have opened up the Twitter homepage, you will be invited to set up an account (if you don’t already have one). If you do then all you need to do is log out and set up a new account.
  • Type in your first and last name (this is will be especially handy for people who want to find you later on).
  • Type in a valid email address that Twitter can use to contact you regarding your account. Don’t worry about privacy – this email will only be available to Twitter and won’t be shown on your account!
  • Choose a password and you’re done! You’ve set up your brand new Twitter account.

After this, you will want to choose a username. You can change your username at a later date, so if you’re just getting started then don’t worry about picking the perfect one. However, a good tip is to make your username the name of your blog – or some variation that will help people connect the two.

Finding who to follow

Now you have to find people to follow and get people to follow you. Twitter will automatically give you choices of who to follow – it’s up to you whether or not you do this. If you have connected your account with Gmail or any other email service, then it will give you the option of adding people who are in these lists. You don’t have to do this though, so don’t worry. Once you have started following a few people, Twitter will recommend more people based on accounts that you already interact with. The more people you follow, and the more hashtags you search for, the more relevant accounts that Twitter will recommend for you.

Once you start following people, more people will follow you and the more you tweet, the more people will see your account and start interacting with you. If you already have an established fan base on your blog, then it may be worth putting a link up on your blog’s homepage to encourage regular visitors to check out your Twitter account. You may also want to do a one off post about how you’ve set up a Twitter account – this way people will know that you’re available on this platform too. One other thing you can do is join an online user directory like Twiends. They have over 50k daily users, and the good thing is that it will only connect you with people that you have something in common with.

Tweeting!

Tweeting itself is easy. Whenever you put up a new blog post, you can simply tweet the link to connect with more people and get more people to come and visit your site. You can also tweet about anything relevant to your blog. The beauty of Twitter is that you get to share as much or as little information about yourself as you want, so you can connect with an audience without having to compromise on your privacy.
