How to earn money from your blog with Google Adsense

If you run your own blog you may be wondering how you can make some money from it. The good news for you is that there is something called Adsense out there which is by far the easiest way to make some money.

It’s a code that you can install onto your site and afterwards it will search all of the pages to see what they’re all about. From here, they go to their database of ads and find which ones are relevant to your site or content. After that, they place ads on your site which relates to your content. So for example, if your site is about cars then Adsense will put up an ad for car parts.

It’s that easy and it does most of the work for you. Now you will get a small cut from any sale that is made from people clicking on your ads. Or you will get a small amount whenever anyone clicks the ad – regardless of whether they buy something. There are different ways how you can make money using Adsense and as long as you’re meeting the criteria then it should be a great way to make some extra money.

Who can use it?

This sounds like a great opportunity to monetise your site, and it is! But because of this Google have made it so that not just anyone can use this facility. There are certain criteria for eligibility before you can use it.

The Google Adsense Criteria

  • Having your own site. You must have access to edit the HTML source code for your site, otherwise it won’t work.
  • Complying with Google’s policies. This includes things such as not clicking ad links yourself, or not using any kind of artificial link clicker. Search ‘Google Adsense policies’ to make yourself familiar with the list. And beware that they are able to change their policies at any time, so you have to keep up to date with it yourself.
  • Being active for at least six months. Your site should have not only been up and running for this long, but also have been active. This means that you should have regular new visitors, updates and new content. This is just so the ads aren’t going to be placed on ‘dead’ sites.
  • You must be above 18. Fairly self-explanatory.

If you are a hosted site then you can still use Adsense, but a different set of rules apply and you will have to apply via that account, not under the usual application process.

Why should I use it?

Adsense is such an easy way to make some money from your blog. It’s incredibly easy to get started and only takes a few minutes. A lot of other ad networks require hours of back and forth before you can even get approved. With Adsense, you can be up and running in no time at all.

Google Adsense stats

There aren’t many restrictions on what you can and can’t do. A lot of other ad networks require a minimum amount of site traffic before they will place ads on your site. But this isn’t true of Adsense. You can use this program regardless of how much traffic you’re getting.

You can also customise the look and feel of it once it’s on your blog. This means that you can make it so it looks like a part of your site and doesn’t spoil the overall feel. The amount of other programs which don’t allow you to do this is quite a lot, which seems a shame.
